Reading Programme

The Reading Programme aims to cultivate pupils' interest in reading and expose them to books of different genre. It also provides opportunities for pupils to listen to good spoken English as the teachers read the stories aloud to them during the library periods.

To carry out this programme, the department has purchased a range of books that are recommended for the different levels from P1 to P6. These books are for the teachers to use as read-aloud books.

Pupils are motivated to borrow books from the school library through giving out key chains/badges to pupils as incentives for reading.

  • Junior Reader Keychain / Badge - 30 books
  • Master Reader Keychain / Badge – 60 books
  • Super Reader Keychain / Badge – 100 books

Little Red Dot

Since 2006, the English department has introduced the "Little Red Dot" into the curriculum for P3-6.

"Little Red Dot", a student’s newspaper, is specially designed for primary school students with the objectives of helping them improve in their general knowledge and cultivating the reading habit among the young.

It is published together with The Straits Times every Tuesday and it is only available through school subscriptions.

Through the introduction of the "Little Red Dot", we hope pupils will be motivated to read the newspaper at home or in school.

Reading Mums Programme

The objective of the Reading Mums Programme is to provide remedial reading for less able readers. Parent volunteers are recruited to read to them once a week.
