God's Judgment Regarding King Menahem

What little we know of King Menahem impresses us with the depth of his evil. He ordered and led a holocaust against the helpless citizens of Tiphsah, but taxed his own people to fund a bribe to avoid engaging powerful Assyria. He also participated in the golden calf cult originated by King Jeroboam.

2 Kings 15:17-18   In the nine and thirtieth year of Azariah [that is, Uzziah] king of Judah began Menahem the son of Gadi to reign over Israel, and reigned ten years in Samaria. And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not all his days from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.
