Countable &
Uncountable Nouns Quiz
Comments:
- "Homework" is a grouped item. It is uncountable though the number of items within the group are countable e.g., a piece of Science homework, two pieces of Mathematics homework.
- Liquids such as water are typically uncountable but in Sentence #3, there is a quantifier for water (i.e., a glass of ... ). Although we cannot count "water" itself, we can count "glasses of water". In this case, water is a countable noun.
Examples of other quantifiers (of uncountable nouns) are
- a slice of (cake), a piece of (steak) ... for food
- a bag (of rice), a pile of (dust) ... for objects that are too small
