The tense of a verb tells us when the action was done. The action can be done in the past, present or future.

Talking about the Future

There are four main ways of talking about the future.

"will" or "shall" + verb

"Shall" is used
• in polite questions (e.g., Shall I open the window?) and
• in legal documents suggesting duty or obligation
  (e.g., The vendor shall submit the tender documents by 31 December).

volunteering / deciding to do something I'll work late tomorrow.
"going to" + verb talking about plans I'm going to watch a movie tonight.
present continuous talking about definite arrangements in the future Jean: What time are you leaving tomorrow?
John: I'm leaving at 8:00 a.m.
simple present talking about schedule or timetable Our meeting on Monday starts at 9:00 a.m.
