Times Five Pattern
The trick for multiplying by five involves multiplying by ten.
Say, you want to do 6 x 5. The total of six 5s is half as many as six 10s
i.e., 6 x 5 = 3 x 10 because five is half as many as ten.
Similarly, 8 x 5 = 4 x 10
Times Five Pattern: To multiply a number by five, multiply a half of that number by ten.
But what about 7 x 5?
Half of seven is three and a half (3½)
so 7 x 5 = 3½ x 10.
But what do you do with three and a half 10s?
A half of ten is five, so three and a half 10s will be three 10s and 5, or 35.
