Preschool - up to 3 years
Primary school - 6 years
Secondary - 4 or 5 years
Pre-university - 2 or 3 years
Tertiary - 3 or 4 years
Every child is required to attend six years of primary school education. English is the primary medium of instruction in schools. Students are required to take Mother Tongue as a second language. The education system practises streaming at primary and secondary levels providing differentiated curricula best suited to the students.
Five polytechnics and three universities. Working adults can enrol in the Open University Degree Programme run by the Singapore Institute of Management.
