Prerequisites for
Application
- There are no broken
images on all the pages
- All links work
- Backgrounds aren't
obscuring the text or making the pages hard to read
- If the web site has a
“What's New” page or section, it should be updated within the last
week
- The web site isn't just a
list of links to other places
- The web site meets the
following content guidelines:
- Has a customizable
GeoGuide on top of the pages or support the GeoPops Program.
- Has a link back to the
GeoCities home page at the bottom of each page.
- The content of the pages
match the neighbourhood they are located in.
The Final
Assessment
- The quality and
originality of content
Content is most important - if a page is not that sophisticated
graphically but has excellent content, it can still qualify as a
featured page.
- The page's overall
look
Preference for sites that have a consistent graphical design
throughout and a good layout.
- Pages are not overloaded
with too many frames, animated GIFs or pictures.
More does not neccessarily
mean better when it comes to web pages.
The Reward ... additional
disk storage
“Thank you for your
excellent contribution to GeoCities. We like your site so much that
we've decided to highlight it on the topic pages of your
neighborhood. We've upped your disk storage ... by an additional 3
MB above the standard ... if you're going to continue to create
great content, the least we can do is give you room to do
it.”
Congratulations, “Parenting the Next Generation” is very popular and has been receiving a large amount of traffic. Your site has become so popular, in fact, that our records indicate that you're using more than the allotted amount of data transfer we provide for a free web site, which is 3 GB (gigabytes) per month (measured on an hourly basis). That means at some time during the past few days we had to turn your site off until the usage fell within the prescribed limit.
