Unlike animals, plants do not eat; they make their own food through a process called "photosynthesis". During this process, the leaves use SUNLIGHT, carbon dioxide and water to make food. Plants need sunlight to survive.

In the GRASSLANDS, there is mainly grass and a few trees.
Even though herbivores eat lots of grass every day, the supply of grass never runs out because when the top of the grass is eaten, it will grow again from the roots.

Grasses are well suited to the low rainfall in the GRASSLANDS. They have long, narrow leaves that lose less water than larger leaves. Their roots are extensive and are able to take in water whenever the soil is wet.
